It's funny how my mom decided to use it

What about you miss Phantom? You're the one who made the thread, gotta tell us

You have a really pretty name, Amanda!
My name is Dana. My dad chose that name for me because 'Dana' is Arabic and it refers to a specific type of pearl. I personally don't like it. I think it sounds harsh and not very feminine.

Aww I actually love my name Dana lol
It’s way more common in Kuwait tbh, since in the old days men used to go diving for pearls for months so they can afford their living for their family. Although, there are so many things that are pretty dark from that time that I personally don’t like. I can talk about it though if you’d like..
Anyway, both my sister and I’s names are an Arabic version of pearl. And no, it wasn’t on purpose since my dad is not creative and named us after each of his grandmothers….
But THANK GOD my mom didn’t name us. The names she had picked for us were SO Syrian (she’s half-Syrian). I already look different from the average Kuwaiti girl and got lightly bullied for looking Syrian in school so if my name also stood out like a sore thumb it won’t be very nice

I’m happy you like it! I’m learning to love mine. It’s annoying though when every single person I meet has a different way of pronouncing my name!
Both of my parents are Lebanese but my dad was actually born and raised in Kuwait before moving to the US. I guess it make senses why he chose my name as Dana if it’s so common there!
I’d love to hear about your Kuwait stories! You can pm me if you want!
I’m not going to lie, when I first saw your name I thought you had some Kuwaiti in you and I got a bit excited. It’s not common I meet a Kuwaiti in this game.
The story about your dad being/living in Kuwait makes so much sense as to why he named you Dana. Dana is way more common in Kuwait than any other Gulfian countries or Arab countries since pearl trading was one of the main sources of income back then. Although, the most common name in Kuwait is Fatima. I had 5 Fatima’s in my class of 27 and it’s not even a nice name

we call them Fa6ma not Fateema though.
The dark story is a short but sad and disgusting one so I hope you don’t mind me saying it here? Back in the pearl days, slave trade was unfortunately alive. When the men would go to the seas searching for pearls (takes months as I said), they would cut the genitals of the slave men off so they won’t rape the women (part of me thinks that’s more of an ego thing and because they don’t want their women to have affairs with the slaves). What pisses me off is that it’s okay for men to rape slave women though. My great-grandmother had a slave woman and my great-grandfather raped her and impregnated her….. how is that okay??? Ugh trash people.
Edit: your name is pronounced Duh-Neh right? Since that’s how mine is pronounced
