What are you currently reading?

Postby Vivica (13404458) » Mon Oct 12, 2020 5:35 pm

My friend and I started a two-person book club where we take turns picking and buying books we're gonna read together and discussing it as we go along. We just finished One of Us Is Lying which was basically a cross between The Breakfast Club and Pretty Little Liars. :haha: It was enjoyable, though! We're gonna be reading the sequel next but I'm looking toward the future and I'm curious as to what y'all are reading so maybe it'll get some ideas of what we'll read after we finish the sequel. :)

I'm a huge sucker for Young Adult novels. Also, anything dystopian, fantasy, or horror, too. :haha:

Anyway, yeah! Lmk what you're reading, what you've read lately, your favorite books and authors, etc.

I'm rereading Wild At Heart by John Eldridge. That's my brainy answer so I'll look smart. :haha:

But I'm also reading my favorite trash - fantasy adventure novels. I'm into the Shanarra series (currently in The Elfstones of Shanarra) by Terry Brooks at the moment. After watching the made for tv series, I've decided to go back and re-read the books. It's been 15 years, so they are fresh again.

"La felicidad de los perros del terremoto" by Gabriel Rodríguez Liceaga. The title translates into something like "The Happiness in the Dogs After the Earthquake". It's about a publicity stunt gone wrong.

Also, tonight I'm gonna start "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron.

I read them forever ago, and decided I'd read them again. Fall is my favorite time to read.

I watched the Shanarra series but I've never read the books! Might have to add them to my list. :)

I haven't read a good vampire book in awhile. I think I got a little turned off of vampires after Twilight happened. :haha: No offense to Twilight fans... lol. I thought about reading The Vampire Diaries because I did enjoy the show. Might pick up the Vampire Lestat, too. :)

I've also never read the Percy Jackson series! I watched the movie but I'm sure it did it no justice. :haha: :drink:

I've been feeling a little creatively stuck as of late so The Artist's Way sounds pretty enticing at the moment.

Nothing wrong with paranormal smut! Gosh, it's embarassing to admit but I adore bad boy meets/falls for good girl smut, lol. Guilty pleasures ftw!

It’s a prequel to Interview With the Vampire. I really enjoyed the first book and thought it was written beautifully. I am halfway through the Vampire Lestat and I really like it.
The Percy Jackson books were my favorite thing when I was younger. I read them in 6th grade and I carried those books with me everywhere. No matter how loud my classmates were being around me, once I started reading everything else was tuned out and I became so invested in the story. The movies were so disappointing. It deviates from the original story so much. Entire important plot points and characters are completely omitted from the original book and changed in the movie. You should definitely check out the books for an easy and fun read.

I definitely will be checking them out, for sure! I thought the movie was cute but I felt it lacked a lot, even though I had never read the books previously, it just felt like it. I think a lot of movie adaptions turn out bad, tbh. Miss Peregrine's movie was so boring but I loved the book. Harry Potter movies were decent but they still did the books no justice. Divergent, Hunger Games... I enjoyed both of them as books more than I did the movies, even though Jennifer Lawerence was great as Katniss. :haha:

This is my favorite dystopian series. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11044367-taken

Easy read and interesting dystopian: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/157 ... his-i-know

If you like humorous detectivey stuff, you already know about Stephanie Plum. The Spellman Series is also great; sadly only five books: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/129 ... lman_Files

YA:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/379 ... s-daughter

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/849 ... y-daughter

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/322 ... e_Oleander

Random good books that I rated 5* on GoodReads:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/103 ... o-to-sleep

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/271 ... oyal-nanny

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/556602.Sarah_s_Key

"Old" but good, several are the types of novels that follow families or friends through decades:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/133 ... d_You_Made

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/419 ... of_Friends

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1711588.Dirt_Rich

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/559758.Queenie

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1051403.Roommates

I love series. Favorite of all time is the Savannah series by Eugenia Price (Historical Fiction), Harry Bosch series, Phillipa Gregory series...

I'm sure you know Sarah Dessen, Jennifer Echols, and Jenny Han for YA.

Not saying which unless you'd like me too, but one of the 5* list has a plot twist I never saw coming, and that's rare.
I know that people I'm replying to directly probably know things I'm explaining. I'm explaining for the others reading, who may not. (-:

You’re very welcome. Love reading, obviously. :)

The first one has the plot twist: Before I Go To Sleep

Also just saw this free on Reddit if you do ebooks.
