Is anyone else a data hoarder?

Postby ChristineYo2008 (4327680) » Mon Oct 07, 2019 4:55 pm

I have been my entire adult life, but didn't know there was a name for it until a few years ago. I mostly hoard fonts and design files, which lately has come to include Procreate brushes.

Fonts are the worst... I have close to six figures now - only partly because I'm a freak. The other partly because I'm old.

I've been archiving and dumping lately... trying to get what I'm keeping (local) down to 8TB so I don't have to buy any more drives.

Nope. The internet is my horde of data. Quickly and seamlessly finding what I want is my specialty.

I'm pretty darn good at that, too. :haha:

There's a great free Halloween font on creative market right now. I almost changed my signature, but...sofa.

fonts? wow. That's new to me. Tell me more. What's your favorite font? :?: Sounds cool though!
You could also use the cloud. Saves money and space. :balloon:

Favorites depend on use. CastleT for professional use, Bradley Hand for casual use, and currently Adeline for script, but that changes on a dime. I buy a lot (small business - graphic design) but tons are free. I have a Facebook group of a few thousand people where we post all of the free files we find.

If you have a PC, MainType is hands down the best font management program I've ever used.

I do use the cloud. I think 10TB is currently $99/month, though, so drives are cheaper. Irreplaceable files are on the cloud and in a fireproof safe. Everything is backed up to a service that I can purchase filled HDs from in the event of a major disaster.

My guess is you've lost some "irreplaceable" data at some point? No one listens to me about backing up their data properly until they've lost something precious once.......and I mean ONCE. When it happens to someone once, they are a convert forever.....

Or are you a fellow IT weenie? :?:  :haha:

Sounds interesting! I Have a mac but I'm sure they have something similar for it. I was going to suggest google Drive which is free and reliable but you must have a whole lotta font to be using Tb. I had to read back and see that you do but for me It's personal use not business. I have so many movies and music and I didn't fill mine up yet lol. font on! :D :drink:

I have lots of movies and TV shows, too. I keep them and all of my design courses and things like that on a Plex server. plex.tv for anyone unfamiliar with what that is. Basically, my own little Netflix. LOL

Also thousands of e-books. Hence the hoarder part. :haha:
