First time I saw the movie I had to pause it to catch my breath. I could not stop giggling and had to pee. That scene with Cleese on the wall as a French guard is one of my very favorites.

-Pulp Fiction (1994)
I love the nonlinearity of this movie and the way it ends right where it started. Travolta is amazing in this movie and the characters are so visceral. There is a connection between all the characters that makes it so complex; Tarantino really nailed it with this movie.

-Hereditary (2018)
This was Ari Aster's first movie, and after watching the trailer I was super excited to watch it. Man, was I mind blown. Aster's take on horror is so different and fresh, he is setting the standard (not to mentioned A24 in general). The film didn't rely on jump-scares, rather it built a story that goes through generations of families and creates horror in an eerie and unsettling sort of way. It was pure genius. I was on the edge of my site the entire time watching this. The soundtrack perfectly complimented the movie. Because of this, I am so looking forward to Midsommar, which comes out in a few days (also directed by Aster).

-The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017)
When I originally watched this, I didn't know what to make of it. I had to watch it a second time in order to grasp what I was watching. This movie requires a bit of interpretation which I feel could go a number of ways. All the interactions are very robotic and the same topics constantly come up, relating back to a main theme. The film is the definition of an eye for en eye. Another A24 masterpiece that left me thinking long after it was over.

-Under the Same Moon (2007)
I was born in Puerto Rico and I moved to FL at a young age, so I never knew the struggle of immigration and coming into the US illegally. However, my parents had many friends who did not have documentation and I was friends with their kids along with others in my school who were in similar situations. Up until this movie (which I saw in my childhood and then again in later years), I was unaware of how difficult it is for some families to make the transition and provide for their own. The focus on mother and son in the film really personalizes this struggle and journey and allows viewers to realize how hard of a life it really is and the reasons behind why it's done.

-Room (2015)
Another A24 masterpiece (see the common theme?). While this movie is fictional and definitely has its flaws, I enjoyed watching it. This film depicts the journey of a young teenager who is kidnapped and raped. Her son is a product of that and they're trapped in a garden shed, which is his whole world. He knows nothing else as he was born there. The focus is more so in the victims than the criminal, which is a fresh change.

-Her (2013)
I love love Phoenix and Johansson in this film. It gives a new perspective on love, which I understood to be satirical to the LGBT community, since times are changing and people are allowed to be themselves today more than ever. There are supporters and criticizers, but at the end of the day, you're the one that has to make the decision what makes you happy. I think this could also be interpreted into where the future is headed, where operating systems are becoming so sophisticated where they can take on a mind of their own.

The Normal Heart (2014)
-Amazing!! All the actors in this are stupendous! This movie depicts the AIDS crisis just a few decades ago and does so in a way that you are able to see how it affected individuals and families. There is such strong character development and it will forever be a favorite.

Dallas Buyers Club (2013)
-On that same note, this film is not a different time period, but does focus on one man's journey into revealing those who were corrupt. Unlikely relationships were built that are the core of the movie.

^^These are only very few of my favorites. I have so much.

To MsPhantom, we have very similar taste. I have seen almost every one of the films you mentioned. In fact, just last week I watched Under the Skin and I totally agree with you. I was left with no words at the end. I believe part of it was to show love transcends anything. The music was perfect and created an eerie feeling that I couldn't shake. Fun fact, the men filmed outside the cars were real people who did not know they were part of the film. They consented to being shown afterward.

I only disagree with you on one thing: I believe the best superhero movie is the Dark Knight. Ledger's method acting makes the film.

Another one of my favorites. One of Nolan's first films, low-budget, and a masterpiece.

Room is a really good movie and really well done on all fronts. It's a shame that Brie Larson couldn't channel the same amount of emotion in her performance as Carol Danvers like she did in this film.

I respect your opinion about the Dark Knight but I don't really consider the film to be a "Superhero" movie.

So what do you guys think about The Incredibles? I've long contended that the writing and characters are some of the best every done in an animated film - although my favorite single animated character has always been Megamind.

I've never seen it. But Omar Sharif is in it so I guess I gotta watch it.

The Neverending story made me love books and appreciate them. It also had a great story for overcoming challenges and obstacles. It gave me a bigger appreciation for fantasy and mystical genres. Falcor was the coolest luck dragon ever lol.
