The Christmas Robin




The legend of the Christmas Robin

Long ago on a starry night in Bethlehem, not like any other, a babe was born in a stable where the innkeeper kept the animals. Each of the animals knew that this child was special. And thus wanted to gift him something special. The cow said: "My gift shall be milk to keep him from being hungry." The sheep said : "My gift shall be warm wool to make him a bed to lay his head." As each animal told his gift to the child, the robin sat patiently and in her quiet voice spoke- "I shall fan the fire to keep the child and his mother warm". As the night grew into early morning, the robin fanned the flames. But, as the robin fanned the flames, her breast became quite warm from the fire. The more the robin fanned, the more her breast began to glow. The other animals looked on in amazement. For now, the robin's breast was as red as the fire! And so it remained as a reminder of the love and warmth of the robin that night long, long ago.
