Please Read: Account Security and Phishing Scam Concerns

Postby Viking Adam » Thu Jun 03, 2021 6:17 pm

Hey YoFans!

Our Player Support Team has noticed some suspicious behavior from some account logins, and while we’re 100% confident that YoWorld is safe and secure, we have very good reason to believe that some players may have unfortunately fallen prey to a phishing scam.

Phishing scams work by tricking players to click untrustworthy links via a multitude of ways, including:

~Claiming to be part of a contest.
~Pretending to be a member of YoWorld staff requiring your ‘authorization’ for something.
~A friend or stranger asking you to click on a suspicious link to see a photo or a video.

...and many more. They rely heavily on getting you to take an action in the moment, and as a result confuse and trick many people - old and young alike.

Whether or not you believe your account has been compromised by such a scam, we encourage you to update your security settings. Because there’s no official ‘YoWorld’ login information, the only way to log into your account at this time is through Facebook - so if your account has been compromised, it really means that your Facebook login profile has been compromised.

We encourage you to reset your password, but also to add 2-Factor Authentication to your account. With 2 Factor your account becomes much safer, as it will require anyone with your password data to also have access to your cellular device in order to log in.

We understand this is definitely a hassle, but our first concern is that everyone's accounts are safe and secure. We’re taking steps on our end to try and track down how this scam originated, but until then please be sure to update your account!

If you’re ever unsure if your account has been compromised, or if you believe that items / currency are missing from your account as a result of suspicious activity please submit a ticket. Our support team will be happy to clear up any concerns you may have!

Thanks,

-Viking Adam

Nobody is immune to this. I don't care how well versed up on tech/risk/security anyone is. For example.........

I'm at a conference. The Keynote Speaker was Stu Sjouwerman, CEO of KnowBe4 - a company that specializes in designing phishing attacks so companies can test their employees. He detailed how he, president of a security focused phishing test company, was indeed phished successfully in 2019 by a fraudulent Amazon packaged phishing email. He was busy. He wasn't paying close attention. And he had recently bought a few things from Amazon Prime. And then he did it - he clicked the link without inspecting it. And then he entered data. And before the night was over they ran up about $1200 on his account before the AI controls flagged it for review.

Guys, listen to what Adam said. He's trying to help you from yourself. We ALL need to listen.

It is easy enough to be friendly to one's friends. But to befriend the one who regards himself as your enemy is the quintessence of true religion. The other is mere business.

It is a Facebook feature. You can find it on your Facebook account’s setting. You give your mobile number to Facebook, and turn the 2 Factor Authentication on. Each time you try to login Facebook, it will send a code to your mobile phone for successful login. That way, nobody can hack into your Facebook account. I highly recommend it :)
