Ethics Test

Postby Rod (126579776) » Fri Jul 12, 2019 1:44 pm

So you go to a sale and you see something you know sells regularly for 5M coins. The seller has it priced at 250K and is happily unaware they could get far more for it. You go ahead and............

A. Let them sell it to you for that price.
B. Offer them twice their selling price to appease your conscience.
C. Give them the full value because you couldn't sleep at night.

There is no wrong answer here. I've done all 3 at times depending on the seller. Just curious how you might handle it.

That's a great question! Once I told the seller it was selling for a lot more in AH, and she said that was okay she would sell it to me for that price anyway.

I would tell the person what it is really worth. I doubt I would give them 5m as I usually don't have 5m. But I would definitely tell the person.

I had that happen just today! If the player looks new, I always tell them if the price is too low. Today it was an older player, I bought the item without saying a word.

i always tell them it's going for more in ah, suggested worth is 5 mill and then offer them 4 or 3,5 million. if they take it okay. if they don't i respect that. what goes around comes around and whatever you put out into the world is what comes back to you. guess some will consider me honest to a fault. that's ok. i sleep quite well at night, thank you

Yeah, auction house. Mine. End of story. But at an event I would say what I felt the item usually goes for and make an offer I'm comfortable with. But I've had many times where they knew their item's value and wanted to sell low either as a kindness or to be rid of it. One also said she couldn't conscience being part of price jacking. OK then...

Never go to sale event, not even once, but I think I'll do C. A few million virtual coins are not worth sleepless nights and a guilty conscience.
I don't trust people who throw flattery around. Most of the time it has a string attached.

you hit the nail on the head ms. stadust. although each person has their own limits to what they allow their conscience to do or feel. what one thinks is right, another thinks is wrong. a lot of grey areas in life sometimes.

If I know what the item is worth, I definately inform them so they can make an informed choice to sell or not. If I do not know the going price, but suspect it might be higher than what they are selling for, I ask them if they want to double check price, since I think it sells higher. If I do not know the going rate, I buy the item if I like it, and remain as blissfully unaware as the seller. :haha:

It's great to make coins in the game, but it is much better playing the game with your integrity intact.

Yeah, I know, Diana. Ethics is just a human construct so it is relative. I should have added that it was for myself.

The most famous test of ethics is actually the Trolley Problem which was thought up by the moral philosopher Philippa Foot. Until now I still don't know how to answer that dilemma :dizzy:

Has anyone ever questioned that someone with the name of Philippa Foot came up with the Trolley Problem test?
