Now, the contest is full with more dedicated fashionistas rather than players who only entered for the free items and threw in random junk for it.

bvg did u ever re-hire a bunch of player testers? it really could be a good idea  its not like they expect to get paid
oops wrong thread. ^ that was more directed re the storylines

What am I supposed to do for the gem events? No instructions and I've asked others and they have no clue either. :?:

Thankfully, I'm not into vintage items. :)

Yea and they gave us a lovely rotary phone, which I rather like, but it's hand held.. what is the point in that ? Who the hell walks around carrying a rotary telephone ? :dizzy:

On another note.. I like the free room, thanks for that. I would love to see those doors in the depot :)

Lol get the phone......yeah would of been a nice deco...

You will need to enter either a designing or an outfit challenge. Today when the Gem Event (red gem that appears in the upper left corner of the screen every day at 4pmEST) resets, there will be a new contest -- probably a decor one, since we just finished an outfit one yesterday.

There are different requirements in the Storyline Quests that have you perform tasks involving the Gem Events.

Denna, at least we can repurpose all those old items (I delete all the challenge rooms as soon as I can anyway) and do not have to buy anything new.

Though I would think they would want the opposite of that... You know, sell more new items, make more money... But what do we know? Maybe they want the polar opposite of that.

Exacltly!!

How many tents and other camp items someone needs? :dizzy: :dizzy:

To be honest I expected challenge: wellness room, create spa or something like that... Not another CAMP!

That is exactly what i was expecting. If they wanted an outdoor challenge, then a hiking trail deco room should have been chosen.

I'm sorry if I'm missing it in this thread, but has the issue of the rooms and the outfits not saving in between edits been addressed?
We have to do our entry all in one go now, and sometimes we lose our work along the way if disconnected so we really need to be able to save our rooms and outfits in increments so we don't lose hours of work! Please fix this soon as it is not working as stated here. I used to put a lot of time into my rooms (and outfits) and now I am nearly having a heart attack trying to get a 5-10 hour room done in 1 hour and risking getting disconnected.

I have some rooms that took longer than that to complete (not the gem ones) and some houses that took 2 or 3 years to really finish. Trying to get everything into an entry when I want it to be really intricate and not get disconnected is super hard! I forget to put some little details in every time because I don't want to lose my progress and have to start over. Some of them I sort of half-ass sometimes, but when it's one I really want to do well, it's overwhelming sometimes.

my recent rooms have not taken as long, i'm getting increasingly tired and can't go on for this long of month after month events so the rooms are less inspired.

it can still take a long time but it's a combination of brainstorming, finding my items amongst my hundreds of homes, and seeing how the room falls together ... i'm just a slow decorator so i need it to save in between edits so i can adjust it til it feels right. tonight the room saved in between, so i'm not sure if they fixed it or if it was just a glitch last time around.

on the last challenge when it wasn't saving, i had laid out the small floor tiles and had to rotate each one, then line it up so the wood grain lined up right... that was half way through the decorating at that point and i remember feeling so nervous that i'd lose it all...

your homes are so well thought out, i can see them taking years.

my homes take years because i'm lazy and tired, not because they are good ;D
my usual pace is more like 1 home around HW and a few avenues per year
but since these gem events started i don't remember even decorating one home, just a couple avenues.
this is a rat race

Thank you, Loie   And I love every room I've seen of yours, gem or otherwise! I feel you on the trying to line up the floor tiles. I am SO OCD about that both with gem rooms and my "normal" houses. I've found I tend to do better at outdoor/nature rooms for the gem events since everything doesn't have to be symmetrical, and I can put them together more quickly without the panic of trying to align everything just right and then get booted. I'm lazy and tired myself, but when I get in the decorating mood I get really into it :haha:

Edited to add: Also, sometimes when I feel rushed with these event rooms, I end up wishing I left some things out or arranged some things differently. I guess that's why they call it a challenge, but it really does suck the fun out of decorating.

I have OCD, too. Bad sometimes :( Both your decoration styles are amazing (Loie and LisaTM). I know that Lisa fills her non-contest rooms with an incredible amount of detail and thought. I've never tried to start a room or an outfit during a contest and come back. I think I'm afraid to lose my progress and become discombobulated.
I'm hoping the "new & improved" store feature will be helpful to me & to players like us, but I'm getting anxious about it. I cannot use the current new store editing, as it blocks too much of my screen -- and I can see it being a deal breaker for me to enter decor (room) contests.

Thank you, Julie   Hoping the changes mean it won't block our screens! I am so divided on that subject. On the one hand, I love things as they are and I don't like the current new alternative store, so I've continued to use the old one ever since that newer one was introduced. On the other hand, I've adjusted to other changes, but they didn't affect my decorating, so they were a bit easier to adjust to than this feature. I got to secretly test the user interface several years back, and I wasn't thrilled about the final product, but after a couple weeks I forgot the old one existed. I'm really hoping that will be the case with whatever changes are coming to the store.

Not excited for a new decorating shop mode. I want to keep my old settings thank you. Another camp scene for a challenge is beyond boring....please forgive my lame entry whoever sees it, I am about finished with these gem events
