[STORYLINES] Updates, FAQs, and Progress

Postby Viking Sarah » Wed Mar 27, 2019 9:47 am

Hey YoFans!

As I'm sure many of you know by now, our team temporarily disabled Storylines last night after another launch attempt. Monday's launch saw us rolling out portions of the new feature gradually, and monitoring the results to ensure there were no mishaps or issues arising.

Ultimately, the Storylines launch was successful; however, the March Event voting that occurred at the same time (and slipped under our radar) caused background processes to become bogged down which resulted in lag and slow-loading for many players. It was at this time that we decided to temporarily disable the Storylines feature and go back to the drawing board.

So where does this leave Storylines?

Our team will be fine-tuning the processes and data again to hopefully launch this feature in the near future. We are using a robust tracking system that will allow us to see when, where, and how the feature began to chug, which is a great lead to follow in terms of finding a speedy solution. The fun of working on a live game is that all of your i's can be dotted and t's crossed during the testing phase, but once a feature is rolled out to a live environment, all the hidden bugs like to show their ugly faces.

When Storylines comes back into YoWorld, I will not only update you all on this news, but I am happy to announce that any progress you have already made with your Quests during previous launches will be saved. You won't have to start all over!

As this has very much been a back and forth process, I'm sure you all have a lot of questions, concerns, or comments. I invite you to please leave these remarks in this thread, and I will do my best to answer your questions (or at least be the liaison between the Storylines team and you).

Thank you again for your patience during all of this!

I already decided this rat had enough cheese. I hope the players looking for additional things to do or have panic attacks about missing out on stuff enjoy them when they are done. I imagine if I was I a new player this would have been really fun. Glad to know you guys are gonna work on feeding the game a steak that just doesn't seem to want get swallowed.

I was briefly thinking of delaying my gem challenge hangout in hopes this would be back soon and the hangout would count. But then, I was like naw, you'll forget so I did it. I guess the gamble paid off.

Any idea on when this might return? Like 1 day, week, month.? I'm just asking so I know when I can start hounding y'all...

Looks like the Cozy Armchairs along with 5000 coins were finally granted to the players who finished the first storyline.

You got it! All players who were affected and didn't receive their rewards should now see them in their accounts. Sorry about that slight bump in the road, but I'm happy to hear this issue has been resolved. :)

Oh Erwyle ... if I have learned anything in my brief time as Community Manager, it would be to never deliver dates when they can be uncertain. YoFans have a very strong track record of holding us accountable for promised dates. ;)

With that said, I can promise you that our team is reviewing the data even as we speak. (If I had a quarter for everytime I heard "Storylines" already today...)
The last thing we want to do is release Storylines again and have to pull it back once more, so we're determined to solve the problems to ensure a smooth game experience for everyone!

My biggest issue with the storylines is the joining of gem event tasks to the storyline tasks. I feel this is unfair to anyone who chooses to not do the gem events. In future I would like to see this feature without gem tasks because it is redundant to do the same hangout for gems and then go buddy more people for storylines. The adventure event we had was much better gameplay and did not lag out the servers like storylines.
